U.S. Department of State Counselor Tom Sullivan held a virtual meeting with pro-democratic resistance organizations

On August 15, U.S. Department of State Counselor Tom Sullivan held a virtual meeting with pro-democratic resistance organizations advocating for reforms in Myanmar. Padoh Saw Tah Doh Moo, General Secretary of KNU, and Padoh Saw Taw Nee, Head of KNU’s Foreign Affairs Department participated in the meeting.
Key points of the discussions included the current U.S. policy, alliance-building among pro-democracy and resistance organization, planning for federal democracy, improving local governance, and preparing for inclusive dialogue. The importance of maintaining pressure on the military regime and promoting accountability for human rights abuses was also underscored.
Counselor Sullivan emphasized the United States' ongoing commitment to supporting pro-democracy actors through direct assistance. This support aims to build movement cohesion, improve public services and humanitarian aid, and advance steps towards civilian governance.

The virtual meeting included participants from KNU, Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) Chin National Front (CNF), National Unity Government (NUG), and National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC).
